It is slow growing and can be pruned to a multistemmed tree and maintained its retain a smaller height. It has exfoliating bark (which peels), somewhat like a sycamore, to reveal an underlying patchwork of white, olive, light purple and silver, eventually becoming milky white at maturity.. It takes at least 10 years to get the patch bark and even more to get hot white.
