In the hair on the back, also behind glass, is a lock of his hair. This was from the family estate of a descendant of George Mifflin Dallas, who was US Vice President under James K. Polk. The man in this photo is possibly George's son, Philip Nicklin Dallas (1825 1866), who was a lawyer practicing in Philadelphia at this time. I have seen this exact pendant frame
